Infinite Echo
2022
Print, glazed ceramics, 290x200x20 cm
Commission work by Burçak Bingöl for the Peninsula Hotel, Karaköy, Istanbul
Bingöl's large-scale commissioned work Infinite Echo (2022) has been permanently installed at the Peninsula Hotel’s Istanbul branch. Created for the lobby entrance of the hotel, the work visually calls the flora around the hotel to the interior of this special space.
Designed by Rebii Gorbon, the building had been used as Karaköy International Passenger Hall and was open for service from 1940 until 2014. The plants that grow around the hotel are collected and transformed onto the ceramic surface of the traditional vessels. Infinite Echo recalls Istanbul’s historical garden culture through its botanical and cultural aspects.
