Paysage Present, 2018

Clay and gold paint

Site-specific installation made for the exhibition Unleashing

curated by Işın Önol and Livia Alexander

April 1st – May 31st, 2018

Columbia University, NYC, USA

The site-specific clay installation problematizes history, memory, and displacement through plants and their geographical references. It casts a material shadow of the plants that grow in the area surrounding Teachers College and re-create an indoor landscape with unfired clay. This work interacts with the space as the clay dries, cracks, and peels off of the wall. While the clay motifs on the wall hold onto the present space and carry their own pasts, they invite to think on temporality as well as fragility and preservation.
